Enameling Tutorials

Since people in all stages of experience with enameling have been contacting us, we thought we'd compile a short list of resources that cover everything from how to get started, to more advanced techniques. Feel free to add your own suggestions in the comments!

  • http://www.blogcatalog.com/blog/copperheart EEAT member Copperheart has created some wonderful, thorough tutorials on a variety of enameling techniques. Beginners will want to start with this one; advanced artists will want to note the other tutorials, listed in the sidebar.
  • http://www.glass-on-metal.com/main.htm From this page, you can subscribe to Glass on Metal (the only magazine devoted to enameling), read past articles, ask questions, peruse the forum, and participate in the user gallery (and more).
  • http://www.enamelistsociety.org/index.html The Enamelist Society hosts conferences, awards, and an online members' gallery. Their Resources page is fairly comprehensive, with sections for supplies, publications, guilds, and galleries.
Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Add in fabrication techniques, different methods of firing, and experimentation with different metals and products, and you've got yourself an endlessly fascinating art. We'll be covering those details in the future!

Why We Exist

Don't worry, this is not going to be an existentialist exploration into the meaning of life.

Perhaps you're already familiar with Etsy.com, that fabulous marketplace for all things handmade. As enamel artists, we began noticing an increase in the number of people who are delving into the world of enameling. Wouldn't it be fun if we created a team, so that we could share insights, tips, and push each other as artists? And have a place to post photos, techniques, interviews, and more? Thus, this blog. If you're not an enamel artist, fret not. This blog is for you, too. You can vote on your favorite work of art in our occasional friendly competitions, ask questions, and get to know this amazing art form!
